Gazelle and Gary De’Snake have made their Disney On Ice debuts in “Spotlight Magic!,” a new production that began its world debut weekend at Orlando’s Kia Center, according to Attractions Magazine.
The “Zootopia 2” sequence is the final featured segment before the show’s overall finale. It includes Judy Hopps and Nick Wilde alongside Gazelle and Gary De’Snake, both of whom Disney On Ice previously announced as first-ever additions to its productions.
Gary De’Snake enters using a large articulated figure that extends above the performers. The character’s long blue body coils around the visible support structure as performers move him across the ice, creating a large-scale visual element specific to the “Zootopia 2” portion of the production.
The segment then develops into a Gazelle performance with backup dancers, elaborate lighting and a large entrance for the fictional pop star. Judy and Nick join the celebration, giving the sequence the appearance of a full-scale Zootopia concert adapted for the arena show.
Attractions Magazine reported that the response from the Kia Center audience was among the biggest of the night. The placement of the segment also gives “Zootopia 2” a prominent role in “Spotlight Magic!” as the production moves toward its finale.
The new show features more than 30 Disney characters and also includes segments based on “Toy Story,” “Moana,” “Beauty and the Beast,” “Tangled” and “Monsters, Inc.” A new Disney Villains sequence is part of the production as well.
“Spotlight Magic!” marks the latest Disney On Ice production to bring characters from the “Zootopia” franchise to the ice, with Gazelle and Gary De’Snake joining Judy and Nick in the newly introduced sequence.
