Pixar Place Hotel at Disneyland Resort has added a new Monsters, Inc.-themed Halloween display featuring monster characters in costumes as they trick-or-treat around the resort, according to WDW News Today.
Disney artist Brett Snodgrass was among the digital artists who worked on the seasonal overlay. The project took two years to develop and involved collaboration between Walt Disney Imagineering, Pixar, and Resort Enhancement at Disneyland Resort.
Snodgrass, who has worked with the Resort Enhancement team for more than eight years, said the concept began after a fellow team member suggested imagining what Halloween might look like for Mike, Sulley, and Boo. The resulting artwork shows monster characters wearing costumes and passing candy between the monsters’ world and the human world through doors.
Maintaining the established look and personalities of the Monsters, Inc. characters was a priority during the design process. Snodgrass worked with Pixar to ensure the artwork remained consistent with the world of the film while incorporating a Halloween theme.
Once the artwork received approval, the project moved to printers, graphic technicians, and installers, who transformed the hotel’s physical decor.
Snodgrass also described a personal tradition connected to his work. After completing an art project, he walks to the location in the resort where the finished artwork is displayed. He said one of the most rewarding aspects of the project is knowing that families, friends, and Disney fans will interact with the decor and create memories together during the Halloween season.
