Theme Park Report

The Walt Disney World Railroad will completely stop operating at Magic Kingdom for five weeks this fall, according to operating information reported by BlogMickey and WDW News Today. The closure is scheduled to begin September 28, 2026. WDW News Today reports that the railroad will reopen to guests on October 30, meaning its final listed day before the closure is October 29. BlogMickey likewise found no operating hours listed again until October 30. WDW News Today describes the shutdown as a refurbishment closure. BlogMickey reported that Walt Disney World had not published a statement explaining the reason for the complete closure, and that the park’s website did not connect it to a particular project or maintenance need. The railroad has been operating in a shortened shuttle mode since July 2025. In that arrangement, trains travel between Main Street, U.S.A., and a Fantasyland-area station rather than completing the full route. WDW News Today identifies the second stop as Storybook Circus, while BlogMickey refers to it as the Fantasyland station. The reduced service began after the Frontierland station was taken out of use because of nearby construction. The sources identify that work as involving Piston Peak National Park and Disney Villains land. BlogMickey reported that the train has not operated its full route since the shuttle arrangement began on July 7, 2025. According to the reporting, the upcoming closure affects the entire attraction rather than only one station. Walt Disney World has not announced when the railroad might resume its full route. BlogMickey also reported that the shuttle arrangement had been described as a multi-year setup tied to the pace of nearby construction. When the railroad returns on October 30, WDW News Today reports that it will continue operating in shuttle mode.
