Disney’s Port Orleans Resort – Riverside has debuted a complete redesign of its Royal Guest Rooms, replacing the previous ornate furnishings with a more contemporary look and stronger visual references to Louisiana and New Orleans, according to WDW News Today.
The updated rooms include new Princess Tiana artwork, family photographs displayed near a Cuisinart coffee maker, and decorative details featuring Tiana and Naveen’s initials, crowns, lilies, lily pads, and Ray the firefly. A letter from Tiana is embedded in the table, welcoming guests and referencing memories of making gumbo with her parents.
The furniture is less elaborate than in the former design. The regal chairs and ornate headboards have been removed, while the beds now sit above additional storage space. Hardwood-look flooring, patterned curtains, decorative molding, and a ceiling fan and light are part of the redesigned room.
Several practical updates have also been added. The bedside area includes two standard electrical outlets, a USB port, and a USB-C port. The former Cinderella carriage-inspired coat rack has been replaced with three hooks mounted on a board.
The vanity and bathroom area remains largely similar to the resort’s standard rooms, including the same floor tile and vanity. The redesigned room does feature a mirror with gold detailing incorporating Tiana and Naveen’s initials. In the shower, a former The Little Mermaid-inspired curtain has been replaced with a frosted-glass sliding door and wall-mounted dispensers for shampoo, body wash, and conditioner.
The most prominent new feature is the illuminated artwork above the beds. One setting lights the artwork from the front, while another uses a black light behind the piece to transform its bayou scene from day to night.
WDW News Today described the redesigned rooms as retaining a significant amount of storytelling and themed detail, while offering less of the classic charm and inspired theming found in the previous version. The redesign continues to place the Royal Guest Rooms within the broader Louisiana setting of Port Orleans Riverside, which is themed around rural Louisiana, bayous, plantation-style mansions, and the Sassagoula River.
